NBN – National Broadband Network. What does this mean? NBN Co is replacing old copper wires with new fibre cables to increase speed significantly for your Internet connections.
FTTP is Fibre to the Premises, and FTTN is Fibre to the Node. A node is a junction box that sits on a street. The nodes are all linked up by fibre cables. The copper wires from your premises link into this node. But what does that mean for the average person?
Currently, the speed of Internet upload and download depends on the length of the copper wires (e.g., how far away from the telephone exchange your premises is). With the nodes, it will be like having a telephone exchange at the end of your street, so less copper wire to travel down, hence the speeds will be much faster. FTTN is the type which is currently being rolled out by NBN Co.
An analogue telephone adaptor (ATA) is a device used to connect a standard telephone to a computer or network so the user can make calls over the Internet. Therefore, you will not need to replace your telephone system. Candour Communications can supply and install these devices.
